The Pomeranian Uglies

What are the pomeranian uglies?

It's the time generally between 4 & 8 months when a pomeranian puppy begins to blow his/her puppy coat.  In order for your pomeranian to transition from their puppy hair to their luxurious adult coat pomeranians are so well known for, they must first shed out the baby hair.

When is this likely to occur?

Generally 4 - 8 months.  It can start earlier, and it can certainly last longer than 8 months.

How long does it last?

That depends on the lines of your pomeranian.  Some pomeranians never go through it that harshly, others are very affected, and can take a year to go through.

What do I need to do during this period?

Just continue to brush our your pom on a weekly basis.  As the dead hair is stripped out you are allowing the skin to breathe, and making way for the new adult coat to come in.  A puppy slicker      will keep the top coat smooth, but you really should have a wire-tooth comb to get through the undercoat.
