SilverMist Shepherd Health Guarantee

Conditions of Sale & Guarantee

This contract supersedes all others, including those of the Canadian Kennel Club.

You have purchased a German Shepherd from SilverMist Registered Kennels.  We hope that you will enjoy your new puppy, and give it the proper care and training that is required to own a dog.  In order to protect your investment, as well as ours, SilverMist Registered Kennels provides the following guarantees:-

Your puppy is guaranteed, until it reaches 12 months of age, against hereditary defects that result in severe impairment or need for euthanization.  In such cases, your puppy will be replaced with a puppy of equal value as soon as availability permits.  This puppy will provided only after production of medical verification of the hereditary defect or an autopsy report from a veterinarian of our choice.  Shipping & handling & vet expenses will be the responsibility of the recipient/new owner.  As grade 1 elbow dysplasia can be environmental, and will not impair the quality of your shepherd’s life, it is not included in the guarantee.

CLARIFICATION OF HEREDITY DEFECT: Transmission of characteristics from parents to offspring by a code embodied in the genes and chromosomes.  The tendency of an organism to develop in the likeness of its progenitors because of such transmission.  An individual genetic inheritance transmitted by biological heredity from parents or ancestors passed on by ones forebears (genes).  Arthritis may be the result of mishandling, injury or increased weight gain, therefore is not covered by this health guarantee.

  1. I certify the dog to have had its first set of vaccinations.  You are responsible for the remaining (2) sets of shots, plus annual boosters and rabies.  This kennel is not responsible for any airborne or infectious diseases the puppy may pick up after leaving the premises of SilverMist Kennels.

This guarantee DOES NOT COVER: parasites, viruses, other diseases or arthritis.

  1. Under no circumstances will SilverMist Kennels be responsible for veterinary fees accumulated by our clients for this dog or its offspring.  Nor will we be prepared to take any dog or puppy back that becomes ill once it has left these premises, all sales are final.  We do not take any responsibility for a dog’s demise while under anesthetic.

  1. It’s your responsibility to keep your puppy or dog in a healthy condition.  The training and housebreaking of the dog or puppy is your responsibility, and not of this kennel.

  1. A German shepherd’s ears can be compromised by a number of factors.  We have recently become apprised of a German Shepherd litter born to us where two of the 8 pups ears did not stand.  This is not something that can be predicted, however, it is something that can be rectified if managed responsibly and consistently.  If you purchase a shepherd puppy from us and his/her ears are not up by 6 months of age,  please let us know and if you are willing to come out, we will gladly help you tape them.  Failure of the ears to stand is not considered severe impairment or need for euthanization, therefore it is not cause for a replacement pup.  To help minimize the likelihood of down ears, do not rub or massage your shepherd puppy’s ears, as this can relax the muscles and keep them from standing erect.

  1. This pup is sold as a pet, and as such a non-breeding will be put in place to ensure this status.  He/she should be neutered/spayed by 6 months of age to ensure no unplanned pregnancies occur.  SilverMist Kennels is strongly opposed to the production of non-purebred puppies for profit!

   6.    If you are considering the possibility of breeding your German Shepherd down the road, such interests are to be expressed to the breeder at the time of purchase.  For certain shepherds, the prospect of breeding is a possibility and in such cases we would do our best to help you find a pup that suits your requirements.  However we will not guarantee a german shepherd for breeding: they are all initially sold as pets.  The removal of the non-breeding will be at the sole discretion of Glenn and/or Terra Ridland.

Conditions of lift a non-breeding contract, the following criteria must be met.

A.     Title in obedience – CD, CDX or above acceptable

C.     Pick puppy, or Price Thereof  when breeding takes place.
