The Spirit of a German Shepherd Dog

I was standing on a hillside
In a field of blowing wheat
And the spirit of a German Shepherd Dog
Was lying at my feet.

He looked at me with kind dark eyes
An ancient wisdom shining through
And in the essence of his being
I saw love there too.

His mind did lock upon my heart
As I stood there on that day
And he told me of this story
About a place so far away.

I stood upon that hillside
In a field of blowing wheat
And in a twinkling of a second
His spirit left my feet.

His tale did put my heart at ease
My fears did fade away
About what lay ahead of me
On another distant day.

"I live among God's creatures now
In the heavens of your mind
So do not grieve for me, my friend
As I am with my kind.

My collar is a rainbow's hue
My leash a shooting star
My boundaries are the Milky Way
Where I sparkle from afar.

There are no pens or kennels here
For I am not confined
But free to roam God's heavens
Among my Shepherd kind.

I nap the day on a snowy cloud
Gentle breezes rocking me
And dream the dreams of earthlings
And how it used to be.

The trees are full of liver treats
And tennis balls abound
And Milkbones line the walkways
Just waiting to be found.

There even is a ring set up
The grass all lush and green
And everyone who gaits around
Becomes the Best of Breed.

For we're all winners in this place
We have no faults, you see
And God passes out those ribbons
To each one, even me.

I drink from waters laced with gold
My world a beauty to behold
And wise old dogs do form my pride
To amble at my very side.

At night I sleep in an angel's arms
Her wings protecting me
And moonbeams dance about us
As stardust falls on thee.

So when your life on earth is spent
And you stand at Heaven's gate
Have no fear of loneliness
For here, you know I wait.

A lot of time has come and gone, since your presence has left our lawn.
On the truck you would sit and wait, hoping for a ride out the gate.
Over the years mistakes were made, some time ago a unexpected and terrible price was paid.
With you gone its not the same, some days go by when I'm filled with pain.
To a better place I know you have gone, as for me I'm left with your memory and carry on.
Goodbye My Friend.......

True Friends
An old man was walking down a road, it was very  hot and dusty and seemed to go on forever. As he walked he noticed his dog was getting weary as well, strange he thought this dog had passed away years ago? It was then he came to the realization that he had also died and this was the afterlife, so they both walked on. They came over a small hill and saw the splendid gates of heaven before them and a man at a small podium letting people in, they waited patiently in line for their turn. The man frowned at the dog and asked the old mans name and checked his list, The old man asked do you have cool water in there? Yes the gate keeper replied. Can I take my dog in with me? No said the gate keeper. So the old man continued on his way, a cool breeze had picked up making the trek more bearable. They came around a corner and saw a rundown farm with an old wooded gate, and a grizzly old man sitting in a porch swing. Excuse me he called out do you have any water there? Sure the pumps over there he gestured with his thumb, Can my friend here get a drink too? You bet there is an old pot by the pump help yourself. The man and dog both had a long drink and then went to the porch to thank the stranger that had shown so much kindness. So where are you two headed he asked? Well to tell you the truth we don't know, I thought heaven but when we got to the gates we were not allowed to pass. Why was that the grizzly old man asked? Well Sir they wanted me to leave my best friend behind and I just couldn't do it. The grizzled old man laughed, my son, my son this is heaven here those gates are just for show, anyone who would leave a good friend behind is not welcome here, that's how we weed out the bad ones......
So remember sometimes things are not always what they seem, always stick with your friends, and be true to your heart it will always know what is right.
